krátká přídavná jména – jednoslabičná nebo dvojslabičná končící na –Y ( hot, happy )

2. stupeň: přidáme koncovku –er

3. stupeň: přidáme the a koncovku –est

pravidla připojení koncovek:

 1) pouze připojíme

      small – smaller – the smallest

 2) k příd. jménům končícím na –e přidáme jen –r   (-st)

        large – larger – the largest

 3) u jednoslabičných příd. jmen končících na souhlásku po krátké samohlásce zdvojujeme souhlásku a přidáme koncovku

              hot – hotter – the hottest

 4) u příd. jmen končících na –y změkčujeme a přidáme koncovku

              happy – happier – the happiest

 nepravidelná přídavná jména:

good – better – the best

bad – worse – the worst

far – further – the furthest

dlouhá přídavná jména – jsou dvouslabičná nekončící na –y a víceslabičná ( gorgeous, intelligent )

2. stupeň: more + přídavné jméno

3. stupeň: the most + přídavné jméno

 
expensive – more expensive – the most expensive
